College Farm - Feather Down Farm
Voted 2013’s Farm of the Year, College Farm is home to a range of animals including cattle, lambs, chickens and Filly the horse. When you arrive at the farm you will be greeted by your hosts, Marcus and Lucy and invited on a farm tour to meet all of the animals and get to know your home from home.
When the lambs are on the farm children are welcome to help out looking after them and possibly bottle feeding a few. There is a communal horse grooming session which is always popular and of course children are welcome to gather eggs for breakfast from the hen house each morning.
There are plenty of things to keep children entertained and burn off a bit of energy including the hay barn, where they are welcome to jump bales, tunnel through hay and generally let their imaginations run wild. Outside there is also a trampoline, climbing frame, swing and slide for them to play on.
The honesty shop on the farm is regularly stocked with local produce, either supplied directly from the farm or by neighbouring farms. Items available in the shop include meat, eggs, milk, honey, apple juice and ice cream. Your host Lucy also bakes freshly made treats.
There are two different types of accommodation available at College Farm, The Canvas Lodge and The Canvas Frills Lodge with en-suite bathroom. Both types of lodge have running water and a flushing loo, so no need to worry about heading off across the field in the middle of the night with a look roll under your arm! There is a communal shower block for those who book The Canvas Lodge. The beds in each accommodation come complete with luxury mattresses and hypo allergenic pillows and duvets. Bed linen is provided unless you are booking a travel cot, in which case you will need to provide your own. There is space in each accommodation for a travel cot should you wish to bring your own. They are available to hire but there may be a small charge and we advise that you request one when booking. High chairs are also available but again we advise that you request these on booking as numbers are limited.
There is no electricity within your accommodation, however candles and oil lamps are provided to create a cosy atmosphere and you will have a wood burning stove to keep you warm if necessary. The kitchens come fully equipped with everything you need to cater for your family, you can also book extras including bbq hampers with local produce and breakfast hampers should you wish.
Just an hour’s drive from the coastal towns and beaches of South Norfolk, College Farm is ideally located for a number of family friendly attractions including Bewilderwood – The Curious Treehouse Adventure, a huge forest of family fun including zip wires, jungle bridges, Crocklebogs, Twiggles and Boggles, storytelling, boat trips, marsh walks and scrummy food!
